If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.
– Admiral William H. McRaven
We may not be trying to change the world, but we are trying to be more productive. For many of us, our lives have been changed, rather abruptly, without much time to transition to a new normal.
Within days, businesses around the city have temporarily closed their doors staying connected to each other and clients with the help of messaging tools and project management software (Bucci included!).
Working from home can be awesome – the fridge is nearby, your trusty animal co-worker is nestled beside you, and office attire is now hoodies and sweatpants. But we would be lying if it wasn’t without its downfalls. Productivity can take a serious nosedive without the proper discipline.
Productivity begins first thing
Bucci believes the simple act of making your bed is a key discipline to starting your day off right. Not to mention could stop the siren call of comfort – encouraging you to crawl back in! Immediate productivity starts by getting out of bed.
Productivity and the Power of Habits
We also know that good habits can increase productivity. In “The Power of Habit,” by Charles Duhigg, Duhigg details daily bed making becomes a keystone habit. This can result in a chain of other good decisions throughout the day and will give you a sense of taking charge! These keystone habits cumulatively lead to “a greater sense of well-being and stronger skills at sticking with a budget.”
Moods and Productivity
It’s a know fact that your mood can affect your productivity. Disorganization and chaos around you could make you feel disorganized and chaotic. Taking a few minutes to straighten the sheets, fluff the pillows, and realign the comforter can create profound sense of tranquility and calmness that will carry you through the day.
It just looks good!
One of our daily tasks in the Bucci showhomes is making sure that the rooms show are at their best. That is especially true when it comes to a bedroom. Imagine walking into a showroom or a hotel room that the bed was a complete disaster. We cringed too. Taking a few moments to ensure the bed is made presents a sense of pride and ownership – something that we can all get behind.
So, whether you’re actually trying to change the world, or want to be a little more productive – make your bed. We promise, you’ll feel better.
